Melanya’s letter to Santa Claus
Hi dear Santa!
You know, I did not meet 2021 as usual and greet it as in previous years. Well yes… This year seems to be a new year with great hopes, expectations, new goals, dreams — in a word, everything is new.
Before telling you how I plan to welcome 2021 not as usual and what wishes I have, let me tell you a little about the irreversible 2020. Why irreversible 2020?
Santa, I wish I hadn’t woken up that day, but I did. I was overwhelmed by the chaos in the house. Can you imagine, Santa, that a large-scale war had started between Armenia and Azerbaijan? It did not seem to last long, but alas, it lasted very long––44 days. Can you imagine, Santa Claus, our soldiers and volunteers fought against the enemy for 44 days and nights? And we lived without living for 44 days and nights.
You know, hundreds of soldiers my age, who could now come to class with me, had lost their lives in that war. The war stole the lives of thousands of people. He took my uncle from us. Well, my uncle, Santa Claus, like all other soldiers, did not spare his life for the sake of the homeland. He gave his last breathe to protect our homeland, us, you, everyone!
Now that homeland is still in chaos. Many soldiers are captured by the enemy. There is no news from hundreds of soldiers, which is probably the most horrible thing. For the relatives of the missing soldiers it seems like a slow death. I can write many sentences with such a context, but I will skip it. What is written is less than what is felt, seen, lived.
You guessed it! Santa, all I want from you is a magic wand. I will fulfill only one wish with that stick, that is, the morning of September 27, 2020 never came; I would not want anything else. It may seem strange, but that is all I wish for.
As a kid, I was always surprised at my parents, who had the same desire every year — PEACE. Now I understand why they wanted peace. Now I want the same thing — PEACE. As we grow older, our desires and dreams change. I always wanted to have different kinds of toys in my childhood. When I was in school I already wanted books. Then there were different desires related to variety of topics. Now, I feel like my all desires depend on only one. In other words, if there is no PEACE, there will be no more wishes left. There is a lot to write about, Santa Claus, but I was able to write only this much. I hope that this coming year will justify itself and we will only hear good news.
Peace and safety to us all!
